About Design For Impact

A practical scaffold for alignment, intentionality, and translation in statistical collaboration.

The project was created by Jett Palmer through graduate research in statistics at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. It responds to a practical challenge in statistical collaboration: technically sound analysis does not create impact automatically. Impact also requires alignment, intentionality, and translation.

Developed through research and iteration.

Design For Impact began as an exploration of how statistical collaborators could plan for and evaluate impact more explicitly. The process model and artifact were refined through feedback from statistics students and practitioners working in academia and industry. Their experiences helped clarify the tool’s benefits, limitations, component definitions, and implementation guidance.

The current version is intended to be flexible. It can serve as a shared project document, supplement an existing collaborative workflow, or provide a mental model for practitioners who already use similar habits informally.
